Where’ve you been?

It all started a few months ago… Boo’s cousin got very sick and was desperately waiting on a heart transplant. We went out of town one weekend and I had a life changing experience in terms of my relationship with the Holy Spirit. That same weekend Boo’s cousin got a new heart!! Praise God! Then, two days later my Dad had open heart surgery: triple bypass, valve repair and a carotid endarterectomy. He was then in the hospital for 2 weeks. After my Dad and Boo’s cousin were home from the hospital for a week, they both wound up back in with plueral effusion, and my Dad had pnemonia. During that week we lost a friend and his brother to a car accident. Once all of that was settled down, I began packing and moving.

As you can imagine there were many more important and time consuming things than blogging. However, that isn’t totally why I have been gone for so long. The biggest reason is that I’m starting a new blog. I know that I could just change the blog I already have and start writing about the new things that I’d like to, but I really want a fresh start.

During the past few months as everything has been crazy, God put more and more on my heart about his desires and plans for my life. He has given me such amazing clarity about things and I can’t hold them in any longer! I have to share with you all that he is showing me.

So starting, on Tuesday, June 1st we will embark on a new adventure called “Girl in Green.”

See you next week? I sure hope so!

Paper airplanes

It is interesting the things we take for granted, especially in America.

A few years ago I went to Laos and was able to help out with an English lesson for the day. After the lesson we played with the kids and had so much fun showing them how to make paper airplanes! (photo above) I never thought of it before, but paper is a bit of a luxury in some places so there are kids in the world that have never folded up a piece and sent it soaring…

It is easy to get discouraged about the things I don’t have. I often need little reminders to just enjoy what I do have and live every moment to its fullest, cause I’ll never get it back.

So, my dear friends, I encourage you to smell the roses, fly a kite, or make a paper airplane. Be a kid again and live for simple joys in life!

Sushi!

I don’t know about you but… I.LOVE.SUSHI.

A good, quality, fresh piece of sushi is like heaven to my mouth. All of those different flavors and textures and the joy of eating with chop sticks… plus the fact that I just feel cool and hip and cultured when I eat it…

I seriously love Japanese people.

So for our first anniversary I bought Boo and myself a one night cooking class to learn to make sushi at Kitchen Conservatory! We are SO excited!!!!! It is a little pricey, but I think it’ll be worth it!

When life gives you lemons…

This past week has been crazy busy and caught me by surprise.

Monday we had a Seder dinner with my step-family to celebrate Passover and it was hard being that my uncle passed just a few weeks ago. We’ve also had dinner with friends we haven’t seen in 10 months, made about 200 pancakes for Maundy Thursday at church and stressed out about pressing heart conditions of two family members.

Amidst everything I’ve also spent some time this week reflecting on what Jesus did for me on the cross so many years ago. It can be easy to get comfortable in my Christianity and forget about what it really means to have my sins completely forgiven and forgotten and to be given the gift of eternal life. Lately in times of business, brokeness and stress it has become especially difficult to appreciate my sweet Jesus and the abundant grace our Father has for us.

Things may not always be easy. Days may not always be sunny. Life may give us lemons sometimes, but the hope I have in my beautiful Savior is that what I see as a sour fruit, he plans to make into refreshing lemonade.

With that, I give you a recipe for my favorite lemonade! Enjoy my dearest friends and may you have a blessed and a joyus Resurrection Celebration!

Miss Aimee B’s Lemonade

2 medium lemons
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups milk
3 cups club soda
ice

To serve 32: 11 lemons, 8 cups sugar, 11 cups milk.

1. Wash lemons, cut off ends and quarter. Squeeze juice into a glass bowl.

2. In blender or food processor, coarsely chop the leftover lemons (do not puree). Add the coarsely chopped lemons to the bowl with juice (do not use a stainless steel bowl). Next add sugar, stir well and let mixture stand for 30 minutes or overnight. Finally add the milk; stir well. Cover and refrigerate several hours or overnight.

3. To serve, strain the mixture through cheesecloth. (This is very messy.)

In a glass with ice, there are two mixing options:
1/3 lemonade mixture and 2/3 club soda OR 1/2 lemonade mixture, 1/2 club soda.

I am a sucker for a beautiful wedding gown. Sometimes I try to pretend that I’m a low maintenance kid of gal who wants something simple that my mom will hand make for me. Then I see a fabulous, run-way, couture dress and I think “who am I kidding?”

The other day, Boo and I were in line at the fabric store check out and my eyes were immediately drawn to the Spring 2010 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings.

Inside I found a beautiful gown by RIVINI (first one pictured). I asked Boo to help me remember the name so I could go online and scope out the other dresses! Here are some of my favs:

Bows on toes… adorable… I’ve been day-dreaming of the perfect excuse to treat myself to a pedicure. These piggies are in desperate need of some post-winter pampering. I’m sure a pair of red Valentino’s would do just the trick! Anyone feeling generous?

Fun & Frugal…

Tonight, Boo and I are going on a date with a couple we simply adore! Whenever we go out with them, the four of us spend as little money as possible, do fun and interesting things and have great conversations about our sweet Jesus!

This evening will be no exception! First we are headed to Forest Park for a picnic (yay for enjoying the nice spring weather!) and then to the Third Degree Glass Factory where the third Friday of every month is free admission and live music! (score on saving money!)

We’ve had this on the calendar for about a month now and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since! Come on, strike four you dreadfully slow Friday clock!

Container City?

I love “going green.” I rarely ever do it, but I love the concept.

Lately my Boo has been fabricating garments for a class and he started using pieces of old t-shirts instead of new fabric. Then, a dear friend of mine bought a wedding dress on etsy made almost entirely of reused fabric, and it is BEAUTIFUL!

So, naturally, this has begun my fascination with taking something that would otherwise be trash and turning it into something, not only usable, but really cool!

Today I found Container City. “Devised by Urban Space Management, Container City™ is an innovative modular system that creates affordable accommodation for a range of uses.” Pretty much they take old shipping containers and turn them into houses and offices and such! It is SO cool!

Engagement photos at the airport? Yes, please! Ah-maze-ing! What a great idea! I stumbled upon this photographer recently when another one of his weddings was featured on Southern Weddings. When I looked at Alec Vanderboom’s blog, this was the first post. I was hooked! I’m always interested in seeing new and creative ways to do wedding and engagement photos!
